2019 Norman E. Alexander Award For Excellence

How To Enter

Submissions must be sent to by May 29, 2019. All entries must be submitted as a Word Document and include the name of the high school and class year of the entrant.

Contest Rules

Essays will be judged on originality, creativity and writing style. There is a limit of one entry per student. Staff, board members and families of The Jewish Week Media Group are not eligible.

Grand-Prize Winner

The winning entrant will  will receive $500 plus the Alexander Award Medal, and will have his/her essay published in The New York Jewish Week and on the websites of The New York Jewish Week, Fresh Ink for Teens and the Jewish-American Hall of Fame.

Meet our Editorial Board - Part 1
Dorrit is a senior at Marlborough School in Los Angeles, where she explores her passions for literature, foreign languages, philanthropy, feminism and singing. At her temple, she leads her congregation in prayer as a junior cantor. In her free time, she writes, watches sitcoms, attends concerts with friends, and takes photographs to commemorate her travels as well as her everyday life. @dorcor
